Doc Guidry was born April 28, 1918 in Lafayette, Louisiana. His dad played the fiddle and Doc began playing the fiddle at the age of 12. He had a brother, Nason Guidry, also a musician who played guitar. Doc Guidry was a self-taught fiddle player. He first played with Joe Fabacher Band at age 14. His first song recorded was "Allon a la Queue De Tortue," and he played for several years with the Happy Fats band, The Rayne Bo Ramblers. During that time they played as many as nine jobs per week. He later formed his own band called "Doc and the Sons of the Cajuns." His first recording was in Dallas, Texas in year 1934. Doc recorded on Decca label. Musicians were paid to record songs but did not receive any royalties. One popular song recorded was "Chere Cherie." He became a friend and recorded with Jimmie Davis, one of Louisianas governors. Doc played at the Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport, Louisiana. Doc died in November 10, 1992. |
