Joseph H. "Pete" Bergeron
"Pete" Bergeron was born on November 9, 1939, in Acadia Parish,
Louisiana, and is one of fifteen (15) children.
He began his career in radio at the age of 15 on a radio show at KEUN in Eunice,
Louisiana. After serving in the Navy where he was again involved in radio, as well as
cryptography and working on the Admiral's staff, Pete worked as an announcer in commercial
radio.
His achievements include the following:
- 1981 to 2001, 25-1/2 hours per week of French programs at KRVS FM Radio
- 1983, represented Cajun Broadcasters at the world assembly of community Broadcasters at
the University of Quebec, Montreal, Canada
- 1984 to 1989, produced approximately 300 half hour Cajun Music Programs, Voix de la
Louisiane, in French for WRNO Worldwide Radio in New Orleans
- 1985, represented Cajun Broadcasters at the France/Louisiane Assembly, Paris, France
- 1990, started research for the First Encyclopedia of Cajun Musicians
Pete became a member of the Cajun French Music Association of Louisiana in November of
1985 and is still a very active member in the Acadiana Charter Chapter.
- 1985 to 1988, served on the Acadiana Charter Chapter Board of Directors.
- In 1988, was Vice President
- 1988 - 1989, was a member of the State Governing Body Board
- 1989 - 1991, was President of Chapitre de Lafayette
- 1988 - 1991, named Chairman of Le Cajun Music Awards
- 1991, named Chairman of the Heritage Committee
- 1992, was named Member to the Le Cajun Board of Trustees
